Moms and Careers - Do They Work Together?

There's one problem with being a mother and being a career woman...

No time for self!

It's the age old problem and one we haven't completely solved. That's why I'm excited to be talking with the founder of the site and parenting show "Yummy Mummy" in a special WomenCorp seminar this coming Tuesday. Get the details on my interview with Erica Ehm .

I've been through it as so many women have when we're trying so hard to manage other people's lives as well as our own both at home and at work. I plan to ask several questions when I interview this woman business owner who makes it work because somehow she's managed to stay sane through her television show, authoring a book and being a mom.

If you're interested in hearing what Erica Ehm of Yummy Mummy has to say, you're welcome to listen in through the computer as I quiz her or call in on the telephone line. It ought to be fun! Sign up for the telephone seminar on Tuesday, Oct 31st "The Balance Myth Demystified - The Truth To Surviving YummyMummihood"

Do You Do Halloween? Ever Had a Halloween Party?

It's just a little over a week away! Those little angels and super-heroes are gonna come knocking on your door...or will they? Times have changed so much. We have to think about safety on so many levels - for ourselves and our kids. The general rule of thumb these days is if you welcome those trick-or-treaters, leave your front porch light on. If you don't want them, then leave the light off. Not that everybody follows that rule, but, at least there's a "rule".

What about parties? At home? Pretty good idea, huh? A lot of churches, schools, and even neighborhoods are having "fall festivals" to keep the risks to a minimum, to have a lot of fun for the kids (us big kids too!), and make lots of new friends in the process. Keeping in mind that some people don't celebrate Halloween, and some celebrate it as a religious day, and some just don't like the commercialism surrounding it, have you ever thought about doing your own party? Maybe your neighborhood needs somebody to organize a party for the kids. What about a Thanksgiving party? So many holidays this time of year and that's a good chance to throw a party.

If you've got any good reason to throw a party, check out The Party Works site. If you can dream it up, they've probably already got it. There are birthday party theme packages, individual party supplies, and lots more. Oh, and yes, they do have Halloween party supplies and decor. Also, check out the article in this issue of WomenCorp magazine. It's titled "Halloween Traditions for the Not-So-Spooky Family". You'll love it!

Have a fabulous - and safe - weekend!

Bart Smith, Mandy Pratt, and PJ Camp...What a Teleseminar!

If you missed last night's teleseminar with Bart Smith and Mandy Pratt, you missed a super-charged hour with one of the Internet's true super-heroes.

Bart's training site, is an excellent source of information. He and one of his business partners, life coach Mandy Pratt, have teamed up to teach you how to work at home in your PJs. We hear so much these days about how to build your own business, start a business, work at home, or telecommute, you can't help but wonder how much of that info being hawked is real and how much is a scam.

Well, I'm here to tell you a lot of them are scams. Not this one though.

Bart is the real deal. He has worked at home, in his PJs and created multiple successful streams of income. In their upcoming PJ Camp, Bart and Mandy are all set to teach you how to do the same using your personal interests, talents and skills. Check out Bart's site, stop by WomenCorp and see what else we've been doing, and, last but not least, think great thoughts and reap great results!

A Car Named Sally - and Breast Cancer Awareness

It's a busy week for me. Barely time to catch my breath! Everybody I run into this week seems to be experiencing the same thing right now. One thing I often remind myself is to be grateful. Grateful for good health and the ability to actually do all that I do. For most of us, there is so much to be grateful for.

One of our WomenCorp lifestyle authors, Jody DeVere, is a great example to us in how to balance family and career obligations, as well as service to others. Her most recent article in the WomenCorp magazine, in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, profiles the limited edition 2008 Pink Warrior Mustang. A portion of the sale proceeds of these cars goes to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Since we women are generally the ones to battle breast cancer (there actually are some men), please read this article, and then make me two promises.

(1) Do something special for another woman this week in honor of all the women who are battling breast cancer or who lost their battle with breast cancer, and,

(2) Adopt the gratitude mindset and thank someone you have never thanked before for the work they do, for the service they provide, or just for the kindness they show to you and to others. That "thank you" will go a long ways and you can bet that person will feel great and pass those good feelings along.

That's all for now. Hope you all have a fantastic day!

Should you Make the OTHER Career Choice?

Entrepreneur: The OTHER Career Choice

Do you know that over 70% of households in the US want to become entrepreneurs?

Stress, lack of security, and the strong desire to have flexibility and a lifestyle that includes working their passion are propelling huge numbers of women to seek the other career choice. Work at home moms often make the choice based on their desire to be home with their children and still bring income into the family and that choice has been a great one for a lot of moms (and their families).

Lynn Carnes has created another thoughtful and inspiring video to help you decide if the other career choice may be a good choice for you. Whether you want to work from home at a computer, work at home as an independent contractor, be a salesperson for an established company from your home office, or have a unique home-based business such as online retail or auction sales, there are many choices out there and surely one to fit you to a "T".

We're already pulling together issue four of the magazine. Be sure to watch for the new issue on Tuesday, October 16.

Now, go see Lynn's video!

Craiglist: A Powerful Publicity Tool and More!

We've now released three issues of the magazine and the response has been fantastic.

One of the articles in this issue is written by Joan Stewart, also known as "The Publicity Hound", and she certainly knows her stuff when it comes to the world of PR. This particular article is so intriguing to me because Craigslist is not typically what you think of when you think "press release" or PR, right? Well, take a look at Joan's article and you'll see what I mean!

While you're at it, explore the WomenCorp site, too. We're adding more free content, more partners, and would love to hear from you! There is a fabulous freebie when you sign up to receive the free magazine.

How To Put Fun In Your Life

If your world feels like it's a constant whirlwind, if you feel overextended, underappreciated and stressed to the max...you're not by yourself.

Women today are sandwiched between managing kids and grandparents, long hours at work, juggling too much and are tired, tired, tired. Leisure seems impossible and having fun, even more impossible. After all, you're just too busy, right?

Having fun doesn't have to take a lot of time. It does require planning, though.

To get you started here are five short and simple ways to have fun in just a few minutes a day. There's also suggestions for a 3 hour, 2 day or extended fun activity that you can plan quarterly.

Five simple ways to have fun:

1. If you're a woman that has a loads of people calling you daily for your advice/support/help, give yourself a break. Take just one day a week away from your cellphone. Call it FREEDOM DAY. Use the extra time to enjoy the peace, quiet and beauty around you.
2. Take just 15 minutes in the morning to read the comics or do the crossword puzzle in the paper. Make it an exercise just like biking for health and realize that having fun is just as important to your health.
3. Buy Erma Bombeck, Calvin & Hobbs or other humourous books with short chapters and take to work. Plan a 20 minute break after you work 2 hours where you can get a drink of your favorite beverage and then just sit and read.
4. Plan to call one old friend a week and catch up. Rotate the friend you're going to call and make it a weekly activity at a certain time of day. Science proves that those of us who have close friends and relationships tend to live longer.
5. Shop for shoes. I say that with a laugh because most women I know love shopping for new shoes. At lunch instead of running to the local fast food restaurant or eating at your desk, take an apple and pack of peanuts or protein bar with you to eat on your way to the shoe store. If new shoes don't delight you then go to the park, the museum or other place that you can enjoy for just an hour.

Now, make having fun for just a few minutes a day a priority! Write your "appointment with fun" in your calendar just like a meeting. Plan and it will happen. Don't plan and you'll go right back to your same old daily routine that kept you from enjoyment in the first place.

Be sure to plan longer, more extended periods of fun once a quarter. We all need a break to rejuvinate and refresh ourselves. With having time out for fun we become more productive after we return or when we know we've got something fun to look forward to AND we're more pleasant to be around for family and co-workers.

Three quarterly "appointments with fun" ideas:

1. When was the last time you went to a play, concert, wine tasting or even something like bowling? Plan a night out for a unique activity (keyword: unique) with your spouse, partner or friend. It should be at least a 3-4 hour event that is out of the normal routine and one that you would truely enjoy. Begin scanning the papers or online activites today for ideas coming up in the next 3 months. Take steps to make it happen and put it on your calendar.

2. Book a hotel overnight in a city that is about 2 hours away. It can be at the lake, the beach, the mountains or even the middle of a busy city that you love, but never have time to visit! Take your closest friend or spouse and enjoy dining out, shopping, visiting sites or whatever you like to do.

3. Take a trip with girlfriends. It's one of the hardest things for women to do is to purposely take time away for their enjoyment with friends. But a girlfriends trip can be one of the most rewarding because a woman's idea of fun can be completely different than when you have a man along.

If you don't have girlfriends that want to do the same things you do, then consider making an effort to find some. One of our women partners did just that when she created the Womens Travel Club 17 years ago...and has it grown. I recently had the opportunity to interview Phyllis and learn about two unique trips she's created for women who want to join other women for exciting travel adventures. Click the arrow to listen.

You know that having fun can extend your health and even your life, right? So take steps today...and plan to HAVE FUN!!
